Well, it was not my idea and I hope you had guessed it but when Manon said her doll needed a tail to go for a swim (a pretend one I hope), I rushed to sew her one (and a top of course) because in my mind, it could be a sign that she is done with mermaid Barbies ( I think we have S-E-V-E-N... embarrassing)! You can't really see it on the picture but the tail is a neon yellow!
Just so you know, the doll is a Native American today, I found feathers in her hair this morning;-)
Sorry for not posting more often lately... I am in the midst of some home improvements. I also played plumber this morning... After dying a yellow carpet in black (took 3 packets;-), I ended up clogging the washing machine and after doing a quick google search to fix the problem, I got my tools ready and went to work;-) And it worked!!! Yeah!
But I have been sewing too and here is my latest project, a floaty (I LOVE floaty;-) nightgown for Lily. I had bought this muslin fabric for a dress but it was too transparent... and since I made up the pattern, I wanted to try it on some inexpensive fabric before cutting some nicer fabric for a few summer dresses;-)

I am going to a friend's birthday party tonight and because she is British, I wanted to use Liberty to make her a little gift;-) I saw a project similar to this one on the Sew Mama's Sew's website. This is a quick project and a good way to recycle all those clear vases... I feel a little bad because I used to have many but not long ago, I decided to make some space and put a bunch of them in the recycling bin... Anyways, I realy like how it looks and I am off to the flower shop!
I should be upstairs helping Lily with her homework but you see, I have to write a quick post first, ha, ha, bad, bad, bad! Well, anyways, here is a picture of the prettiest doll ever and we made a little skirt to match her top (the girls chose the fabric, of course!). Then, following my friend Claire's advice, I made a pillow that does not match at all for our antique chair (and I like when things don't match too much) and one more thing, here is a "quilt" that I had made for Lily because she wanted "une couverture toute douce" for Christmas.
I know, I know, the holidays are way behind us but I got started on these skirts a bit late... oh, well, I think they are perfect for a Happy Valentine's. Other than this quick sewing project, I am busy helping the girls save the princess in Super Mario... a full time job if you ask me. The last time I played this game was with my brother about 20 years ago... ouuuccch, that hurts! But at 34, my skills are still appreciated against the scary monsters;-)
This was a fun project!!! I dyed white curtains for the socks and Lily, Manon and I had lots of fun choosing the trim! What makes it so fun is that they are all different, no way you can get bored working ont his project! Then Lily painted the numbers and we sewed them on the socks... Yesterday, I went shopping for little surprises. The first one was a pair of tiny donkeys;-)
Supplies:
2 yards of fabric in 54" width (I used Liberty because it is soft and wraps well aroud the neck).
Thread
Cut your fabric lengthwise in three strips 18" wide so you have 3 strips that are 18"x 72".
If you have a serger, it is super fast, just do a rolling hem all around the strip and you are done! With a regular sewing machine, you will have to iron all the hems and sew... a bit longer but just as nice!
To get the crinkled effect, wet your scarves, roll tighlty and let dry.
Lily and Manon were invited to brunch on Sunday. I think it is so sweet and they were so excited! A friend picked them up in her mini convertible and it was sunny so they enjoyed the fresh air and danced all the way to Lily's house;-) Here is the little gift they brought her... a dance bag and a headband for the holidays!
After repainting Lily's room, I also wanted to sew new curtains for her and I had to because I used the old panels from Ikea to make ghosts for Halloween (dying them in tea and tearing them for the extra scary touch).
The fabric is a pretty linen from Belgium. When I was done sewing them, they reminded me too much of the old curtains and to give them a more modern look, I added silver bias tape at the bottom. And Lily likes it;-)
It's gorgeous outside and so unfortunate that Lily has the flu... she is feeling fine and her symptoms are mild but we are stuck inside for now... I made this little skirt out of linen, I cut in on the bias which was quite complicated because linen "moves" a lot and I had a very hard time measuring it before cutting... The little blouse was much simpler. She goes with anything and when I get their clothes in the morning, I always go for the white little top if there is one in the drawer that day!
