Last year, my aunt gave me her prom dress, a very long, graphic thing from the 1960s. I should have taken a picture of it before cutting it but too late. In fact, I have had this dress for one year and I did wait until the last minute to start on this project (I will see her next week). She said she wanted me to make something out of it and I made her a tablecloth. The white squares are a very nice heavy linen. If you want to try this project, the squares are 7 1/2 inches and there are 7 squares per row for a total of 7 rows (25 prom squares and 24 white squares) + white strips all around to make is bigger. Dim. is about 60"x60".
what a great idea!! this looks so nice! and it's much better that keeping the dress inside a closet... I am truly impressed! :)

What a lovely idea - I love the idea of making something to give something old a new lease of life. It looks stunning too - and how lovely to have a table cloth with a story.
I've tagged you on my blog - http://jo2308.typepad.com/ looking forward to hearing all you've got to say

I've got some fabrics that look pretty grotty in their original form, but chop an old dress up and incorporate it into patchwork and the material can take on a whole new lease of life. Great tablecloth, and always good to re-use something that might otherwise get discarded as unwearable or out of date.
