A few days on the ranch were pure joy. Kids running free, riding horses, singing cowboy songs and grilling marshmallows at night... How happy we are when everything is simple and dusty, when we can wear the same old jeans and boots everyday and have nothing else to do than spend time with each other.
(I was going to talk about house stuff but it can wait;-)
We spent the weekend in a wonderful little house, in the middle of the forest with lots and lots of snow ... and deers too;-) It was quite an adventure to get there, the roads were white, the driveways hidden (as well as house numbers;-). We really enjoyed the forest, skied and even walked on the lake!!! Usually, for President's day week, we go to a warm place but this year, we stayed here and it is nice too to simply "embrace" winter and wait for spring patiently...
1. Have some cupcakes (why, yes, we have been in France for 2 months now and the girls had a serious cupcake craving).
2. Ride a double-decker bus, sit upstairs (bien sur), and on the front row (bien sur #2) and pretend to drive.
3. Ride a london taxi (so chic) and when little girl #2 is asleep, keep her in the stroller inside the taxi (ultimate luxury for parents).
4. Be happy at Liberty, visit all floors, drool over the Cacharel dresses and swimsuits and other A.P.C. things.
5. Buy lots of fabric at Shaukat.
6. Go see the amazing Peter Pan show at Kensington Gardens (the best show for kids I have seen).
7. Buy another Mason Pearson hairbrush and Royal blend tea at Fortnum & Mason.
8. Have delicious tea and scones at Sketch and go "pipi" inside an egg;-)... a very "2001 Space Odyssey" kind of moment.
9. Walk with husband under light drizzle and buy 2 pairs of boots (shame shame shame on me).
10. Buy design magazines at St. Pancras and leave very happy!
The perfect ending to a wonderful day in Paris... climbing "la butte", listening to some great music on the steps of the Sacre Coeur, strolling on Place du Tertre, meeting a talented and charming artist and watch Lily pose and enjoy the moment... and finally, have a "soupe a l'oignon", a nice glass of wine and listening to live music before heading back home...
We did it! We climbed to the third floor of the Eiffel Tower in August... yes, August, when Paris is crazy packed with tourists who want to do the exact same thing! Crazy you may say but I was starting to feel guilty hearing Lily and Manon say that they had seen the Eiffel Tower many times but never climbed to the top... The whole operation took 2 hours and yes, the view is beautiful! A big check mark on my list of things to do with the kids in Paris! And after that, a very pleasant visit to the amazing MERCI store in the marais where I got a gorgeous silver "cartable" for Manon;-)

A gorgeous day and one to remember with my mom and the girls... tomorrow, I will show you Marie-Antoinette's farm... And if I told you how many times we have watched Sofia Coppola's movie in the last week or so, you would not believe me;-) And Manon's favorite tune is once again "I want Candy"... ha, ha... Last month, it was "Beat It";-))
I wanted to thank you for all your kind comments these last few days;-) I have no problem reading mail but replying to comments is a bit trickier and I can't figure out why... must be the summer brain! We went to the beach and it was windy, a bit cold but very sunny and we ran on the beach, built castles, explored sand dunes and ate fish and lots of delicious fuit! Lily took a few lessons at the pool to learn how to dive;-) She was cold and shivering but she practiced and practiced until she got it! See the snails below? No worries, we did not eat them (ha, ha, ha).
