This was a fun project!!! I dyed white curtains for the socks and Lily, Manon and I had lots of fun choosing the trim! What makes it so fun is that they are all different, no way you can get bored working ont his project! Then Lily painted the numbers and we sewed them on the socks... Yesterday, I went shopping for little surprises. The first one was a pair of tiny donkeys;-)
Supplies:
2 yards of fabric in 54" width (I used Liberty because it is soft and wraps well aroud the neck).
Thread
Cut your fabric lengthwise in three strips 18" wide so you have 3 strips that are 18"x 72".
If you have a serger, it is super fast, just do a rolling hem all around the strip and you are done! With a regular sewing machine, you will have to iron all the hems and sew... a bit longer but just as nice!
To get the crinkled effect, wet your scarves, roll tighlty and let dry.
Lily and Manon were invited to brunch on Sunday. I think it is so sweet and they were so excited! A friend picked them up in her mini convertible and it was sunny so they enjoyed the fresh air and danced all the way to Lily's house;-) Here is the little gift they brought her... a dance bag and a headband for the holidays!
After repainting Lily's room, I also wanted to sew new curtains for her and I had to because I used the old panels from Ikea to make ghosts for Halloween (dying them in tea and tearing them for the extra scary touch).
The fabric is a pretty linen from Belgium. When I was done sewing them, they reminded me too much of the old curtains and to give them a more modern look, I added silver bias tape at the bottom. And Lily likes it;-)
It's gorgeous outside and so unfortunate that Lily has the flu... she is feeling fine and her symptoms are mild but we are stuck inside for now... I made this little skirt out of linen, I cut in on the bias which was quite complicated because linen "moves" a lot and I had a very hard time measuring it before cutting... The little blouse was much simpler. She goes with anything and when I get their clothes in the morning, I always go for the white little top if there is one in the drawer that day!
It's getting a bit colder in the morning and Manon needed a little jacket for the Fall. I especially love the pointy hood on this one;-) She is in Kindergarten this year and I don't think she'll be willing to wear something like that next year so I went for it... The pattern is Cesarine from Citronille, the buttons are vintage and the lining I have had for years... bought it on the clearance table and thought about making sheets with it but it makes a cute lining.
A little skirt for Lily made from a skirt that my mom had intended to sew for herself about 20 years ago (without a pattern;-). I love green this year (especially with red boots)!
I have really enjoyed reading the Happy Doll blog and it is a wonderful place for sewing and knitting doll patterns. We have not named our HTSY dolls yet but at least they have a new little outifit to share. My mom knitted the sweater and I used a vintage piece of Liberty for the dress.
First project from the great Sugar City Quaterly. I don't knit much at all and embroidery is a great and portable craft for the summer. Lily loved working on this simple project and the simple running stitch worked very well.
I found this blue chambray fabric for the skirt on the remnant table at my local fabric store ($2)... it is a local store but is is huge! For the top, I used a vintage piece of Liberty found at my mom's house. I really love this classic Betsy print in that colourway.
Only 4 days before we go to France. Can't wait to escape the A/C lifestyle and see them run in the country!
